Dalhousie Yacht Club – Appropriate Use of Club Equipment
REVIEW AND ACCEPTANCE REQUIRED BEFORE APPLYING FOR OPERATOR APPROVAL
As a prospective operator of Dalhousie Yacht Club (DYC) equipment, you must read and agree to the following guidelines before submitting your application to be approved for any equipment use. This policy applies to all technical equipment, including: (only the whaler can be signed up to because an opperator)

Permitted Use

Club Operations Only: Equipment is to be used solely for DYC-related activities such as ferrying members, race management, dock and yard maintenance, boat launching/retrieval, and other approved club functions.

Scheduled or Authorized Use: Operation must occur during scheduled volunteer shifts, work parties, or with prior approval from a Flag Officer or designated club authority.

Emergency Support: Operators may assist in minor emergencies involving DYC members or property, provided it is safe and within their training to do so.

Prohibited Use

Personal Use: Equipment is not to be used for personal errands, recreation, or any non-club-related activity.

Unauthorized Use: Only trained and approved operators may use the equipment. Sharing access with unapproved individuals is strictly prohibited.

Substance Use: Operators must not consume alcohol or drugs before or during equipment operation.

Commercial Use: No equipment may be used for personal business or commercial purposes.

Operator Responsibilities

Safety First: Always prioritize the safety of yourself, others, and club property. Use appropriate PPE (e.g., life jackets, gloves, helmets) as required.

Competent Operation: Operate equipment only if you are trained and confident in its use. Seek assistance or training if unsure.

Pre-Use Checks: Inspect equipment before use. Do not operate if there are signs of damage or malfunction.

Incident Reporting: Immediately report any damage, mechanical issues, or safety incidents to club staff or a Flag Officer.

Key and Access Control: Return keys and secure equipment after use unless otherwise directed.
