adult SaiLING SCHOOL 2018
All courses open to the Public
Learn how to Sail and Crew!
Courses for the public begin in May and run through to October and utilize the CanSail Start Keelboat Sailing Standard. Students are taught basic sailing skills while they explore the harbour and shoreline of Port Dalhousie. Classes ideally run 4-7pm, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday evenings, on one of our two Kirby 25's, a popular one-design sailboat with many members of DYC's Wednesday night race league. We offer a 10% discount to persons who sign up with a friend! The evening sailing lessons offer an excellent opportunity to explore sailing, make new friends, develop team work skills, and to prepare yourself for a potential crewing opportunity in our Wednesday night Race program. Opportunities to achieve a Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) can be arranged.
Scheduled 2018 Sessions:
CANSail Start Keelboat Sailing
This is one of the entry levels in the series of Sail Canada courses on sailing keelboats and on Cruising. This course is the recommended starting point for individuals with minimal practical on water experience. This entry level course
builds basic sailing skills with a focus on operation of the vessel as crew. Candidates completing this course will be able to competently contribute as crew to the operation of a keelboat in moderate daytime conditions. This standard is
recommended for those with little boating or sailing experience that want to experience sailing on a keelboat and begin to build basic sailing skills in a relaxed environment and at a comfortable pace.
